PhD Candidate Electrical Engineering

John Moore is a fourth year PhD student in Electrical Engineering.  In Nathan Swami’s lab, he is working on microfluidic methods to study pathogen interactions with probiotics and the gut microbiome.  John is characterizing the effects of fecal metabolites on the germination and growth of C. difficile spores using dielectrophoresis.  Prior to starting his PhD at UVa, he completed his undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point and a master’s degree in Human Genetics from VCU.  John is a 2017 McVey Engineering Fellow, 2018 John Bell McGaughy fellow, and is currently a member of the Graduate Electrical and Computer Engineering Student council, previously serving as its president.
